This week was an exciting week for space-nuts like myself. For those who are not aware of the current situation: the space race is back on! This time round, not only are a bunch of countries striving to stay at the frontier, but private companies are participating too.
Elon Musk's SpaceX is right up there in the race. It's made a reusable rocket "Grasshopper", and this this week announced THE first re-usable human capsule Dragon V2. Not only is that amazing in an engineering sense, but also a financial sense. Space is getting crazy- affordable.
This is all great and important stuff, but another thing that I am excited for is a little less technical. This spaceship actually looks like a spaceship. It's modern and aesthetic, practical and shiny. This is the first spaceship that looks as hi-tech as it really is, and it fits exactly what our childhood imaginations created!
The launch of the first SpaceX rocket to the ISS was my first real-time launch experience (thank-you internet!) and one of the reasons I am the space-nut that I am today.
