This weekend was a long weekend in Sydney and I had planned a tight schedule of hard-core study for it. Every nook and cranny of spare time was to be used productively. Of course this didnt happen. I was not able to work in a room full of 20-30 people chatting and 'background' music, nor did I have the energy to sit down and think after an 11 hour day.
This is actually an achievement for me, as normally I would not accept physical defeat and work regardless og how exhausted I am. I would never have given myself a moment to rest when I need it, and the work that I did do in that would not have been 100% useful. I hardly ever get sick now (even though John gets the flu at the drop of a hat), and I enjoy myself more. I work hard when I'm able and the work I do do is of a higher quality.
This is especially important for me as I am constantly trying to learn as much as possible (you may have gotten that message from my choices in tea!), and naturally run high on adrenaline. It's been recently discovered just how important the role of sufficient sleep is in memory development. They used to think it aided the process, now it is known that it is an integral ingredient for it. With a number of different ways relaxing can be good for you, the things that I am new to and enjoying are:
